It is sometimes difficult to remember the wide variety of porn that was produced in the 80′s. Often, the decade is characterized by Ginger Lynn, Tracey Lords, Tom Byron and the transition to video (ugh!). But in the first couple of years, 80′s porn was still slowly moving away from the technology and quality that marked much of porn for the previous decades. The first VCR’s were just making their way into a few American homes. Most porn was still watching in public places. Namely, the local porn theater or in the movie arcades of adult bookstores. Notice that I did not say Video Arcades.
Unlike today’s porn booths, which feature multiple channels fed by high quality videos, your father actually watched projected movies in those booths. Short films, 6-10 minutes long, were shot for those booths – and to be sold to guys setting up bachelor parties. Shooting films with sound added to the production costs, so often they were silent or, at best, a music track was added after the sex was shot. There was no thought given to plot. Unless you count the “lucky pizza guy” or the “naughty secretary” or the “horny housewife and the plumber”. It was just fast sex to help a guy jerk off.
Those old “loops” had their stars. Girls like Sue Nero and Linda Shaw made dozens of them. Many of the girls who became stars in adult feature films also took part: Annette Haven, Lisa DeLeeuw, Loni Sanders and Aunt Peg come to mind. But then there were countless girls who showed up in one loop, then disappeared back into obscurity. A few of those nameless babes still bring back some very good memories.
