The X-Rated 80′s weren’t just about porn movies and smut that we watched on VHS and BetaMax. Classic porn showed up in many forms and in varying degrees. The adult magazine probably reached its heyday during the 70′s and 80′s. There were many hardcore magazines which let us get a good look at our stars, and fetish magazines that let us see every imaginable kink. The best selling porn magazines were the softcore variety that you could pick up at newstands, conveniences stores and by subcription. The big three, of course, were Playboy, Penthouse and Hustler. 25 years ago these three each had its own identifiable editorial style and degree of raunchiness.
While Playboy tried to maintain an aura of smug respectability and Hustler thumbed its nose at mainstream America, constantly pushing the envelope, Penthouse was comfortably positioned in the middle. It’s models rivaled those of Playboy, but they showed more. And Penthouse had a daring creativity that Playboy had left a decade or two earlier. Thoughout the 70′s and 80′s Penthouse featured a strip comic series. Oh, Wicked Wanda ran for better than 10 years. When Wanda finally hung it up in 1980, she was replaced by Sweet Chastity. Both were drawn by Ron Embleton, a successful British cartoonist who brought sexy Chastity to life and made her the magazine’s biggest fantasy girl. Embleton Comics has brought Sweet Chastity back to us with quality scans of this historic strip. They also have all of the Wanda series and other sexy comics from yesteryear. Check them out, members of their site get immediate access to nearly a thousand DVDs, including some excellent classic porn.
